THE FIELD GUIDE

Dawnwalker Builds: Choose Your Combat Style

Start with the resources you can sustain: a sword plan for attacks and blocks, Witchcraft when you can afford its Health cost, or a claw plan for vampire form. Choose equipment and skills you can obtain now, then expand the plan as you unlock more.

Choose by defence, resources and current access

A useful build fits the fight and the unlocks in your save. Start with the style below that matches how you defend and what you can obtain. These are compact starting plans; add your own armour, accessories and learned ranks before comparing complete loadouts.

Mobile swordYou dodge often and want cheaper attacks and dodges.Use your current sword first; the linked equipment target needs Durandal and Charge Manual access.Durandal’s extra damage is limited to supernatural enemies.
Omniblock swordYou rely on Omniblock and want more maximum Health. After obtaining The Purge through an available acquisition route.Trades Durandal’s dodge-cost and enemy-specific bonuses for Health and Omniblock support.
Human WitchcraftYou want an area ability alongside ordinary combat and can budget its Health cost. After obtaining Ravenous Flock Manual and learning the required ranks.Ravenous Flock has a large listed Health cost and is unavailable in vampire form.
Vampire clawsYou prefer claw attacks after dark and want a small perk investment.Razorsharp Claws rank 1 has no Corruption gate; Restless Claws rank 1 needs Corruption 1.This sample adds no active power or passive healing and does not replace a daytime plan.

Mobile sword: Durandal as an equipment target

Choose this direction if dodging is a regular part of your defence. Durandal lists −15% attack stamina cost, −15% dodge stamina cost and −5% Sword ability cooldown. Its +8% damage bonus applies to supernatural enemies. These modifiers describe the weapon’s role; they do not predict damage against every opponent.

The compact skill plan selects Charge rank 1, Sustained Focus rank 1 and Master Fencer rank 1. From Current ranks at 0, those ranks cost 3 skill points and 3 time segments. Sustained Focus supplies a capacity of 2 Activation Charges; Charge’s listed cost is 1. Master Fencer gives 2 Swordmastery slots, with only Charge equipped in this sample.

Obtain Charge Manual access before training Charge. The skill-book directory records camp and teacher options with their conditions. For Durandal, search the chasm below the collapsed bridge west of Briar Sloughs in Ambrus’s Fiefdom; The Cursed Chasm concerns the lost treasure in that area.

Before reaching the weapon, keep your available sword and use the same skill plan if its unlocks are available. Durandal is the named equipment target for this version, rather than a requirement for all sword combat. The Purge is the alternative below when Omniblock matters more than cheaper dodges.

Omniblock sword: The Purge for a different defence

The Purge suits a sword plan that spends stamina on Omniblock. It lists +15% maximum Health, −15% attack stamina cost, −12% Omniblock stamina cost and −5% Sword ability cooldown. It shares Durandal’s attack-cost and cooldown benefits, while changing the defensive bonuses.

Use the same three rank-1 skills as the mobile plan: Charge, Sustained Focus and Master Fencer. The sample again costs 3 skill points and 3 time segments from 0, with Charge Manual access still required. Keeping the skills equal makes the equipment trade-off easier to compare.

For a shop route, visit the Silver Trader by day in the first house on the right when entering Neustadt from the Middens. Open his shop by reading Letter with a Tip or Stained Letter and asking about the silver trade, or by reaching Notorious Infamy 4. These are alternative unlocks. The Uriash Village blacksmith can also offer The Purge; check current selection and price.

The weapon lowers the cost of Omniblock without removing it. A successful directional block costs no stamina, and a Perfect Block restores some. If dodging is your main defence, compare Durandal before changing weapons. Buying The Purge is an access-dependent equipment goal, not an opening-game requirement.

Human Witchcraft: budget Health before adding more spells

This starting plan equips Ravenous Flock rank 1 with Forbidden Sigils rank 1 and Sustained Focus rank 1. Forbidden Sigils also brings in its prerequisite, Unnatural Resilience rank 1. From 0, the four ranks cost 4 skill points and 4 time segments. The sample leaves equipment empty so you can add what you actually own.

Ravenous Flock is an area attack and stun whose follow-up area attacks are triggered by attacking the target. Its listed activation cost is 2 Activation Charges and 40% Health. Sustained Focus rank 1 supplies 2 charges and Forbidden Sigils rank 1 provides 2 Witchcraft slots; this sample uses one. Check your Health before relying on another cast.

Obtain the manual before learning the ability. In A Pilgrimage for Power: Bear Trouble southwest of Laslea Glen, follow the wind-chime trail with Focus, defeat the bear and choose to study the glyph. Studying uses 2 time segments. That acquisition time is separate from the 4 training segments in the sample.

This route becomes practical once the manual is available and you can sustain the casting cost. Keep ordinary attacks as part of the plan. If Ravenous Flock is unavailable or too costly for your current Health, return to the sword plan while working toward a different Witchcraft unlock. Life Lock is a later story-dependent option, with its own reward and shop conditions; check learned ranks before paying for an upgrade.

Vampire claws: start with two attack perks

For an inexpensive claw-focused direction, start with Razorsharp Claws rank 1, then add Restless Claws rank 1 when you reach Corruption 1. Razorsharp Claws lists +5% claw damage at that rank. Restless Claws follows it in the tree and lists −15% claw-attack stamina cost. Together they cost 2 skill points and 2 training segments from 0.

The linked plan selects vampire form and these two passive perks. It has no required weapon, no equipped Active Ability and no assumed manual access. Corruption starts at 0, so the planner keeps the Corruption 1 requirement visible until you enter your real level. Neither perk supplies passive healing.

Claw stamina support does not settle your Health management. Closing Wounds is a separate recovery perk that regenerates within the current Health segment; its first rank needs Corruption 3 and the Endless Hunger prerequisite. Consult the healing guide before treating it as a replacement for feeding or blood vials.

Later active powers need their own unlocks, charge checks and Vampirism slot capacity. Vrakhiri Might rank 1 needs Corruption 4 and provides 2 Vampirism slots. Add those abilities only when their requirements match your save; the two-perk sample deliberately leaves that decision open.

Hybrid planning: keep a daytime and a nighttime version

Use hybrid to mean planning both sides of Coen’s day and night. Swordmastery skills marked for both forms can carry across those plans. The human Witchcraft abilities and vampire abilities above have different form requirements; switching the planner’s form keeps selected abilities visible and reports any conflicts.

Save separate named plans for day and night, then compare the skills you want in both. The Inventory Equipment Preview can show Day Set and Night Set. Closing that preview restores the active set selected when you opened it; it does not undo equipment edits.

Armour choices still need their own skill budget. Second Skin I reduces medium-armour penalties and Second Skin II reduces heavy-armour penalties. Mixed pieces may need both. Neither fixes inventory overencumbrance, and the planner’s armour total does not calculate those penalties.

Turn a sample into your own build

Each preview link opens a shared snapshot and keeps your existing browser draft available. All Current ranks and recorded unlocks start at 0; opening a sample does not assert that you own its gear or have learned its skills. Use Return to my draft to leave it, or Keep this plan when you want to replace the draft.

The equipment modifiers, rank costs and unlock rules used here match the reviewed PC build 25129649 catalogue. Read the displayed requirements after every change. Equipment totals and listed weapon damage are comparison aids; they do not simulate enemy defences, conditional skill effects or final combat DPS.
