THE FIELD GUIDE
Dawnwalker Romance Options and Dialogue Choices
Anca, Lacra and Crake can all be romanced in one playthrough. Follow each personal quest and accept the invitation. Leave time in the night for Lacra, and meet Crake within his one-day deadline.
Which quest unlocks each romance?
Story spoilers follow, including relationship dialogue and the decisions around each scene. Pursuing one partner leaves the other romance routes available; each still requires its own quests and conversations.
| Partner | Romance quest | Moment to look for |
|---|---|---|
| Anca | Stronger Than Achilles | The conversation at the inn after the Font of Life decision. |
| Lacra | The Night of Horrors | The conversation after the mandrake and blood offers, before the night ends. |
| Crake / Marat | A Closer Look | His personal conversation after Distant Shadows; start it within one in-game day. |
Anca: reach the final conversation at the inn
Anca’s main sequence runs through Echoes of Silenced Bells, Between the Words, Where Old Devils Lie and Stronger Than Achilles. If you are still in the prologue, spending time with her during Page Turner gives an earlier opportunity to help her gather herbs and tend her wounds.
During Between the Words, make the tea when she asks and use the personal conversation options. “Always, what do you mean?” and “Your feelings towards me — it’s more than just faith.” develop the relationship.
Stronger Than Achilles brings you to the Font. Giving Anca the opportunity to use it is one supported romance route, followed by “I’d do anything for you.” and “I love you.” Continue the quest and return to the inn for the later invitation.
Accept Anca’s invitation
One working inn conversation uses the following responses. Earlier choices can alter her opening line, so follow the invitation that appears in your conversation.
- Choose “I meant what I said.” when Anca asks about your feelings.
- Accept with “Screw decency. I want you, too.”
Decide on the Font before returning to the inn
The Font decision has its own rewards. Coen can receive Font of Life, Anca can benefit from using it and gain an additional shop selection, or destroying it can lead to an equipment reward. The later romance conversation does not reopen that earlier choice.
If your immediate goal is the scene, the Anca-use route above supplies a complete sequence. If you are comparing character rewards, keep a save before the Font decision so that the inn conversation is not your only remaining save.
Lacra: finish The Night of Horrors while it is still night
Complete A Friend Like This, Song of the Mountain, Hive and Seek and Our Rotten Roots. After the required day has passed, return to Lacra at the tower near Westridge Outpost Shrine. Choose “You had some idea to talk through?” to start The Night of Horrors.
Start close to the beginning of the night. The expedition includes a substantial time-cost objective, and reaching the closing scene after night ends can lose the romance opportunity. “It’s time to deal with Brencis.” starts the final assault instead, so finish this expedition before selecting it.
Accept the mandrake in the hidden cave, then continue the conversation. This route leads to the romantic response:
- Ask “Can vrakhiri get drunk?”
- Choose “[follow Lacra]”.
- Respond “Yeah, I’m over all of it.”
- Choose “[drink]” when she offers her blood.
- Choose “[kiss her]” to accept the romance.
Mandrake Ward, Mesmerise and the kiss
Eating the mandrake grants Mandrake Ward. Drinking Lacra’s blood grants Mesmerise. The kiss is the romantic response after those offers. These choices occur close together, but they award different things.
Declining the direct drink can provide Lacra’s blood in a phial instead. That is an alternative blood reward, not a second independent upgrade to add to the direct drink.
Crake / Marat: unlock A Closer Look before leaving
Crake’s route goes through The Firebrand, Shadow in the Woods, Where Loyalty Lies, What Hunts the Night, What Moves the Dead and Distant Shadows. Support him during the personal conversations; What Moves the Dead includes the opportunity to help remove his armour and tend his wounds.
After following Ascar in Distant Shadows, report back to Crake. When he storms away and Drogos speaks to you, choose “I’ll go talk to him.” This response opens A Closer Look. Leaving without agreeing to speak to him misses that follow-up.
The journal uses Marat’s name for this part of the story. He is the same romance partner as Crake. Meet him near the woods south of Svartrau within one in-game day, or 16 time segments, of the timed quest starting.
- Join him with “May I join you, then?”
- Ask “I’m worried about you. What’s wrong?”
- Continue with “Please, just tell me the truth about Ascar.” and “Why?”
- Reassure him: “Hey. Nothing you say can change the way I see you.”
- Accept the romantic advance with “[kiss him back]”.
The Manumit and the romance are separate outcomes
Listening to Marat’s disclosure completes the personal-story route associated with The Manumit. You can decline the romantic advance and finish as allies. The kiss is the choice for the romance scene, rather than the condition for learning his secret.
Finish personal conversations before the final departure
Resolve the relationship quests you want before committing to an assault on Greifberg. A relationship scene and choosing an ally for the ending use different conversations. In particular, Lacra’s optional expedition remains separate from Midnight Reckoning.
