THE FIELD GUIDE

Someone Needs a Lesson Walkthrough

Catch Vasil in Laslea Glen, then decide how to respond when his father, Atanas, intervenes. On PC, hold Left Shift throughout the chase and press F as soon as the grab prompt appears to stop him.

Start in Laslea and finish before the mass

Someone Needs a Lesson is a prologue side quest available after All Good Things. As you pass through central Laslea, Vasil calls out insults and runs away. Track Deal with Vasil and its Catch Vasil objective to follow him.

The activity costs one time segment. Finish it before proceeding with Sacred Covenant, the mass at sunset. If you still want to confront Vasil, do that before choosing to wait with Pieter until the mass.

How to catch Vasil: hold Left Shift, then grab with F

Keep sprinting until you are close enough to grab him. In our PC playthrough, ordinary running did not close the gap; keeping Left Shift held during the chase did. Reaching him is only half the action: you must also use the brief interaction prompt.

  1. Follow Vasil as he runs towards the northeastern side of the village. Keep sight of him and his moving quest marker.
  2. Hold Left Shift while moving after him to sprint. Keep it held as you close the distance instead of tapping it and continuing at a normal run.
  3. Watch for the F prompt beside Vasil. Press F immediately when it appears; do not wait for him to stop on his own.

If Vasil keeps getting away

If you reach Vasil but miss the F prompt, he can keep running and the chase continues. Sprint close again and react to the next prompt. With remapped controls or a controller, use your Sprint binding and the grab button shown on screen.

Choose what happens when Atanas intervenes

Once you have caught Vasil, you can argue with him or choose a response marked with a fist to start a fistfight. Fighting Vasil is optional: the argument and the fight both lead to his father, Atanas, intervening.

Atanas wants to punish his son and asks Coen to use a switch. The choice here changes who carries out the punishment, or whether Coen tries to stop it. Declining to hit Vasil yourself does not automatically protect him.

Agree to use the switch

If you agree to take part in the punishment, Coen can use the switch to beat Vasil. This is the route followed in our playthrough: Coen carried out the beating, and Vasil appeared bruised in the scene afterwards.

Continue the conversation that follows. The earlier fistfight with Vasil and this punishment are different stages; you do not need to pick the first fight to reach the confrontation with his father.

Refuse to hit Vasil, or stop Atanas as well

Choose “I’m not beating him” to refuse to do it yourself. Atanas then offers to carry out the punishment. Staying silent or allowing him to continue leaves Vasil facing his father’s beating.

If you want to protect Vasil, keep objecting. The “You’re drunk, Atanas.” confrontation leads to a fight with his father. Defeat Atanas, then finish the conversation with Vasil. This route requires a fight with Atanas; refusing to use the switch by itself is not enough.

Finish the conversation with Vasil

Stay through the closing conversation with Vasil after the confrontation. Completing Someone Needs a Lesson awards 250 XP.

After the scene, the time advance can leave Sacred Covenant’s wait-until-sunset objective on your HUD. That is the remaining prologue appointment, not another instruction to chase Vasil. Open Completed Quests in Journal if you want to check this quest’s status before choosing what to do next.
