THE FIELD GUIDE
The Lunar Game: Maze, Box Puzzle and Bakir Choices
Meet Farkas at Lunar Manor in the afternoon, use the preparation window before dusk, then collect replacement gear through the maze. Choose the left hole at the box. To reach Bakir privately, keep your mask on and pay attention to the captive decision before the prize conversation.

Arrive in the afternoon for the nighttime contest
Raise Bakir's anger through his Court activities, then wait for Farkas to approach with his offer. After agreeing, meet him outside Lunar Manor. If your journal still says ‘Wait for the right opportunity’, the invitation stage has not finished; it is different from waiting at the manor for the right hour.
Farkas admits you in the afternoon. The competition itself starts after sundown, with three time segments available for preparations once you enter. Afternoon admission and the later nighttime contest are two stages of the same plan.
You can wait through Farkas's dialogue if you arrive early. Check for useful nearby errands or sword training first: time spent waiting gives you no preparation benefit outside the manor. Before entering, plan around skills you can use with a borrowed sword. Farkas takes your equipment and gives you a disguise, so your usual weapon and armour will not carry the opening fights.
Spend the preparation window on fights you can avoid
Use the courtyard preparations to reduce the pressure on your temporary equipment. Speaking with contestants and sabotaging the drink have different effects; a friendly conversation does not poison the Cockroach.
For a route with fewer forced contestant fights, prioritise the Porcupine conversation and the Cockroach's drink. Initial introductions let you hear people out before choosing the longer conversations that spend time. Check the time cost shown by the next interaction before committing the rest of your window.
| Preparation | How to do it | What to expect later |
|---|---|---|
| Speak with the Porcupine | Reach an agreement before the contest starts. | He can let you pass when you meet in the maze. Without that conversation, the encounter begins as a fight. |
| Poison the Cockroach's drink | Pick Poisonous Leaves from the courtyard bush, then use them on the jug beside the Cockroach before the speech. | He is too ill to fight when you reach him in the maze. |
| Speak with the Marten | She is receptive to your plan against Bakir. | Do not base your survival plan on getting a companion through every room. You still need to handle the maze encounters yourself. |
Build a usable loadout as you cross the maze
Let Bakir finish his opening speech and keep the disguise. Confronting him here starts a fight with him and his guards before you have collected the maze equipment. If your goal is a manageable boss encounter, the loot route is part of your preparation.
The maze follows a largely linear sequence of rooms. Hold back your Vampiric Abilities to protect your identity, and use your sword and available Swordmastery abilities. After a fight, check the bodies and compare useful finds before passing the next doorway. Picking up better gear without equipping it leaves the next encounter just as difficult.
- Defeat the first hellhound, then check the side room through the southward doorway for a chest piece.
- Clear the next pack of hellhounds, loot the bodies and continue through the opening in the tower. Deal with the undead in the next area and check their gear before moving on.
- Meet the Porcupine. Your earlier conversation can let you pass; without it, fight until he asks for mercy, then decide how to respond.
- Defeat the murohn and search the room before continuing to the box puzzle. With your temporary weapon, leave room to defend after a short attack sequence instead of committing to a long string of hits.
- After opening the puzzle gate, pass the fallen Marten and defeat the Great Bog Wurm. When it jumps, move out of the landing area; avoid its poison spit to the side. Search its body for the Immaculate Battlesword and compare it with your current sword before the next encounter.
- Reach the Cockroach. Poisoning the drink earlier leaves him unable to fight; otherwise, you must deal with him in combat. Continue toward the willow tree.
Choose the left hole to open the puzzle gate
At the gate with no keyhole, examine the box and read its riddle. Choose ‘Left one it is…’ to open the way without the trap injury. You do not need a treasury key for this gate.
Check the nearby chest before leaving the puzzle area. This is a useful pause to review your equipment while the room is clear; the next major encounter is the Great Bog Wurm.
Decide on the captive before planning a private audience
At the willow, Bakir reveals that the coin is inside a captive contestant. The private-meeting dialogue below assumes you choose to cut it out yourself. Refusing can still move the quest forward, but Bakir may reject those same answers later because of how you treated the contestants.
There are two different priorities here. Avoiding a fight with the Porcupine preserves resources inside the maze; pleasing Bakir at the willow affects the later prize conversation. Do not assume that every choice which saves a contestant also preserves the route to an unguarded fight. If you choose to refuse at the tree, prepare for the possibility of a confrontation in the courtyard.
Keep the mask on through the prize conversation
After winning, keep your identity hidden while Bakir discusses your prize. Removing the mask immediately brings his guards into the confrontation. On the branch where you retrieved the coin yourself, use these dialogue choices to work toward a meeting inside the treasury. Earlier contestant decisions still matter.
Follow the advancing dialogue options in this order. The last answer is conditional and appears when Bakir questions you about survivors.
- “I’m sorry, but I’m not taking the mask off.”
- “With pleasure.”
- “Cheers!”
- “To friendship and good fortune!”
- “My wish is to die fighting, not quietly in my bed.”
- “Is that all? Can I get my reward now?”
- If asked why you spared contestants: “I thought you might want to eat them later.”
- If Bakir accepts the performance, he takes you into the treasury, where you can confront him without the courtyard group.
- If he rejects it, deal with the guards and then Bakir. Repeating the box puzzle or poisoning the drink again will not change a decision already made at the willow.
Choose your outcome and collect the right reward
A private meeting gives you access to the treasury conversation; it does not force you to fight. You can ask for a reward and leave Bakir alive, or complete the plan against him. The journal records these as different endings.
If you fight, use the Bakir combat guide for his punches, blood lines and bird attacks. Your available gear is still what you collected through the maze. The task's 500 XP completion reward is separate from the experience earned for individual enemies.
- After Bakir's death in the treasury, the back exit lets you leave without choosing the front-gate encounter with his entourage. Take the front route if you intend to deal with that group.
- Keep the maze box, the treasury access and the ring request separate: they are different interactions, and carrying an item from one does not finish the others.
| Your goal | Action | Check before leaving |
|---|---|---|
| Defeat Bakir and take his armour | Finish the fight and search his remains. | If Farkas leads you to the treasury after a courtyard fight, return to the body for Bakir's Armour. The treasury chest is a separate pickup. |
| Unlock Shadowstorm | Take the blood-drinking opportunity after defeating Bakir. | Use the blood-ability guide for the unlock and other sources. |
| Leave without this boss fight | Ask for a reward in the treasury and leave Bakir alive. | This ends the task through the reward-and-departure branch, with Bakir still alive. |
| Handle Farkas's request | Search for the Ring with a Purple Eye and speak to Farkas. | Read its recipient choices before handing it over. Farkas's wearable ring is a different item. |
Check the current stage when progress stalls
Use the journal and the last completed interaction to locate the missing step. The afternoon admission, dusk speech and nighttime maze should not be treated as one waiting objective.
Update 1.1 adds the missing start time to the objective for meeting Farkas. It also fixes being unable to leave the labyrinth after entering ahead of the quest and an encounter failing to trigger after returning from the Games. Update before retrying those older-version blockers; they do not change the preparation and route choices above.
| Situation | Next check |
|---|---|
| The journal says to wait for the right opportunity | Wait for Farkas's approach after raising Bakir's anger. This invitation stage comes before the afternoon entry at the manor. |
| Farkas is at the manor but entry is unavailable | Return or wait until afternoon; the nighttime competition comes after the preparation window. |
| The Cockroach still fights | Picking the leaves alone is insufficient. They must be added to his drink before the speech. |
| The gate has no keyhole | Examine the box and choose the left hole. |
| The same dinner answers lead to a guarded fight | Check your captive and contestant choices. The dialogue sequence does not undo the willow decision. |
| Bakir's armour was not in the treasury | Search his remains where the fight ended, including the courtyard if that was your route. |
